Hard Rock Soft Rock and the Sea GENERAL
This itinerary will "rock you". As you will learn from the starting milestone on top of the Mount Soratte, North of the eternal City, what lies East is a calcareous and allulvional rolling land marked by the spires of the Tiber River. And what lies West is purely volcanic, a mild rises extension which "soft rock" is so different from the other, and surely will conquer you with the mistery of its fertile and humid smell. Not casually this blessing was the optimal cradle for the deveolpment of the pre Roman Etruscan civilization. Also the abundance of underground and surface waters (hot springs, lakes, deep carved canyons was the playgroud for their architects in shaping exquisite dwellings, waterworks, diggings and burials of all sorts. And this "bag" of water anagement technology was later traded over to the Romans, when this civilization literally "merged" in. We will trave all the way from the Soratte slopes, West through the Lazio's Tuscia down to the Manziana and Barbarano area where the Marturanum archaeological area is, and end up on the Tirrenian sea shores where the sound of the legends, so old and so actual, will merge in the wash of the waves.
As happens will all TuTourItaly itineraries, your "exploration" is ideally divided into 4 "phases" and relative stages, 2 for each day of the tour. This is of course just a "pre-thought" suggestion that we bring forward, suitable to fit, in relative relax, all of the interaction implied, or at least most of it. But you are of course free to play around these suggestions in other ways, and personalise the itinerary as you please ! In the following map - table, you will find, in the center the best "tracks to tread" for each of these phases - stages, to to complete the circle from and back to Rome or the alternative starting point of its Civitavecchia Harbour (for cruisers). This tour is only possible on roads, typically exiting Rome or Civitavecchia along the A1 and A12 Motorways, by private vans, cars, and reentering the town the same way back. If any are available, long natural tracks (on bike, horseback or other) are marked with dots. The map - table is framed with four info boxes, one for each phase - stages, containing some more details about each of the four tour sections and its features and attractions:
- a better explanation about the touristic features of each phase - stages as well as natural hikes or other options that might be available
- the main characterisations of each phase - stages, represented by one, more or all of the following icons
